The popular 5-5-5 method works like a charm every single time and makes for some real-easy-to-peel boiled eggs. The 5-5-5 method is not a secret code- it’s an easy way to remember this recipe- 5 minutes of pressure cooking, 5 minutes of rest before opening lid, followed by 5 minutes of water bath. It’s really that simple! The result is so consistent- you’ll be amazed.

So, why bother pressure cooking your eggs? The answer to that is consistent results , but before I elaborate on that, I have a confession to make- I cannot make perfect looking boiled eggs on the stove- I just cannot. No matter, how much I try, how many timers I set, I just cannot get the perfect center and cannot peel them nice and clean. A lot of my egg white ends up sticking to the shell and then starts the battle between the egg and me, and the egg usually wins! The result is always an unappetizing, butchered egg. When I saw so many people getting great results cooking them in the electrical pressure cooker, the Instant Pot , I tried it myself, and the results were amazing. The selling point was the ease of peeling them. The yolk texture was just right for me- moist and creamy, not dry or crumbly at all. It took me just a few minutes more than the time on the stove, so pressure cooking the eggs in my Instant Pot was a clear winner for me.

When I’m cooking 1-6 eggs , the traditional steamer basket works fine. But, if I’m cooking more than 6, like for an egg salad or deviled eggs, then it’s much easier to use this Silicone Steamer Basket .  It has long and convenient handles that make it easy to lower the heavy basket in and to pull it out.

You can see the results of the 5-5-5 method in the video or the pictures posted on this page. However, you can customize this recipe to the way you like your boiled eggs. For a creamier yolk, you can reduce the time to 4-4-4, or even lower to 3-3-3, so try a few combinations and see what works best for your family.

Instant Pot Hard Boiled EggsHard boiled Eggs are not only great for breakfast, they also make for a nutritious and filling snack. They’re are also a great way to add nutrients and protein to your lunches or dinners. They work very well if you’e eating low-carb or are on a Keto Diet. I just slice a boiled egg to my salad and season it with salt, pepper and cayenne- takes delicious and keeps me full till the evening.

To Cook eggs in a Stove-Top Pressure Cooker: Add 1 cup water to the cooker base. Place steamer basket or trivet with eggs. Close the lid. Once the cooker reaches high pressure, typically with 1 whistle, reduce the heat to medium and set a 5 minute timer. Turn the heat off. Wait another 5 minutes and then release the pressure by lifting the pressure weight. Open the lid. Remove the eggs and soak them for 5 minutes in tap cold water to stop the cooking process. Since stove-top heat burners may have difference heat levels, it may take you 1-2 tries to master this style for the way you like your hard boiled eggs.

Serves: 6-8 (or more) Cooking Time: 5 minutes Manual, 5 minutes NPR (Total 20 minutes)


  • 1-6 large eggs (You can add more by using a bigger steamer basket)
  • 1 cup water



Turn Instant Pot on. Pour 1 cup water in inner pot. Place eggs in a steamer basket, or on a trivet. Lower the steamer basket in the Instant Pot. Close lid. Set valve to sealing mode. Cook on Manual, high, for 5 minutes. NPR for 5.


Wait for the pressure to release naturally for 5 minutes (NPR 5). Open lid. Remove eggs and soak them in tap cold water for 5 minutes. Remove the eggs. YOu're done! Enjoy them as-is, in a sandwich, a salad or however you like them.
